From Lawyer to Creative Storyteller

Kapil Parmar

Before getting into tattooing, I was studying Law. While I respected the profession, I always knew my heart belonged somewhere more creative. Ever since I was young, I loved drawing and expressing myself through art. Deep down, I knew I wanted a career where creativity wasn’t just a hobby it was my purpose.

My journey into tattooing began because of my childhood friend, Saiyam Patel. Watching his tattoo made something click instantly. I realized this was the medium I had been searching for a perfect blend of art, precision, and storytelling. As soon as I completed my studies, I reached out to him and told him I wanted to pursue tattooing seriously. He welcomed me with open arms, became my mentor, and gave me the guidance I needed to build a strong foundation. Under his mentorship, I not only improved my technical skills but also learned to see tattooing as an art form that carries responsibility and emotion.

The learning process was intense but incredibly rewarding. I combined everything I had learned from years of sketching and countless hours of studying art tutorials with daily practice on skin. Every tattoo became an opportunity to improve. Every mistake became a lesson. I was committed to getting better every single day.

In 2020, soon after joining Sam Tattoo India, I entered my first competition at the Bangalore Tattoo Convention. I didn’t win that year, but instead of being discouraged, I made a promise to myself that I would return stronger.

That promise became reality in 2023 when I won 1st Runner-Up in the Best Large Color category at the Kolkata Tattoo Convention. Standing on that stage while hearing Saiyam and my teammates cheer for me was one of the proudest moments of my life. It wasn’t just an award it was proof that persistence and hard work always pay off.

Today, my journey has come full circle. I have the privilege of serving as a mentor at the academy, helping aspiring tattoo artists begin their own journeys. Every student reminds me of my first day, filled with excitement, uncertainty, and determination.

I’m deeply grateful to Saiyam Patel and my family for believing in me throughout this journey. My advice to every aspiring artist is simple: never stop learning, stay patient, trust the process, and never give up. Growth comes from consistency, and the art you create has the power to leave a lasting mark not just on skin, but on people’s lives.
