From CA Aspirant to Creative Visionary

Bhavin Gandhi

Before tattooing, I was pursuing CA. I had even cleared my entrance exam in the first attempt and was doing BCom side by side. From the outside it looked like I was on a solid path. But inside, I was always an artist. I was that person always sitting in a corner with an art book. Drawing, creating, imagining. Tattooing always fascinated me. I just never thought of it as a career back then.

When I started looking at tattoo work, something in me said I can do this and I can do it better every time. That feeling kept growing until I just had to go for it.

My own work inspired me the most. Every time I finished something, I looked at it and thought I can do better. And then during my course, Saiyam Patel became my biggest inspiration. Watching him work and learning from him directly changed the way I looked at art.

Saiyam Patel was my mentor and he taught me things I use every single day. He didn’t just teach me how to tattoo, he taught me sketching, digital designing, how to consult and interact with clients, how to respect your art, body anatomy, skin types and so much more. He covered everything.

My learning started during Covid lockdown. Looking back, it was a blessing in disguise. My CA exam had been postponed so I had nothing else to focus on. No distractions, just learning. I genuinely enjoyed the whole process it felt like something was finally clicking into place.

By the time I completed my course, Saiyam sir saw potential in me and offered me a position as a junior artist with his team. I knew straight away this was an opportunity I couldn’t say no to. That’s how it all began.

I started as a junior artist at Sam Tattoo India in 2021. Within one year, Saiyam sir gave me the opportunity to participate in the Inksoul Tattoo Festival 2022, an international convention. I was nervous seeing so many experienced artists around me. That’s when Saiyam sir told me “Just stay focused on your artwork and your canvas, which is the skin.” I held onto those words and I won. Then in 2025, I won 2 more awards at the Kula Tattoo Festival.

Being introduced as a mentor at the same academy where I once sat as a student was a proud moment I can’t really put into words. What made it even more special is that I’m the youngest mentor here. That means a lot to me. I was thrilled and I was ready. Whatever I have learnt, every experience I’ve been through I want to pass all of that on to my students. To guide them, to help them grow, to make them better artists than I was when I started.

I will never regret choosing tattooing over CA. Not for a single second. And the one thing I will never forget is my mentor. Saiyam sir didn’t just teach me a skill, he shaped who I am as an artist. That’s not something you forget.

If you’re genuinely passionate about art and want to learn tattooing, stop worrying about what others think and focus on your growth. Follow your passion but back it up with discipline, practice, and patience. Don’t just rely on feelings, build real skills… because that’s what will truly take you forward.”
